The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks, both coming off series losses, begin a key four-game series Monday in the tight National League West.

The Rockies dropped the rubber game of their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-6 on Sunday. The defeat trimmed the Rockies' lead over the Dodgers to a half-game in the division. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks lost Sunday for the 11th time in 16 games, yielding six runs in the ninth inning and losing 9-5 to the Atlanta Braves.

Marquez is 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA in his past five home starts, four of which the Rockies have won. He has piled up 25 strikeouts in his past two starts, including 11 on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants when he gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings and won as the Rockies triumphed 6-2.

In his past eight starts, Marquez is 3-1 with a 2.24 ERA with 13 walks, 72 strikeouts and 38 hits allowed in 56 2/3 innings. Opponents are batting .189 against Marquez in that stretch with a .539 OPS.

He's 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts against the Diamondbacks this year and 1-4 with a 4,72 ERA against them in 11 games (10 starts).

Godley has never lost to the Rockies. He's 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA against them in two starts this season and 4-0 with a 3.15 ERA against them in seven games (five starts).

Godley has pitched five innings in three of his past five starts, including Monday against San Diego when he allowed two hits and four runs and took the loss as the Diamondbacks fell 6-2. But in his previous start on Aug. 29 at San Francisco, Godley allowed two hits and one run in season-high 7 2/3 innings and was the winner in Arizona's 3-1 victory,

Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, who was rested Saturday night, was 5-for-41 and hitless in 15 consecutive at-bats when he when he belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning on Sunday, his first home run since Aug. 24.

Obviously, it stinks that we couldn't win, but it felt good that I was able to hit a ball hard there," Arenado said. "We can't let this game affect us. We know we got a big series coming up here with the Diamondbacks. Losing's never fun, but when you have big games coming up -- which we put ourselves in that position -- it's easier to move on."

The Diamondbacks are 7-5 against the Rockies this year and 4-2 at Coors Field.

Arizona outfielder David Peralta was not in the lineup Sunday but singled home a run as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning. He injured his left ankle running out a fielder's choice in the eighth inning Saturday night.

"David kind of banged up his ankle," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters before Sunday's game. "He was lunging at first base. It's nothing that's going to prolong things, as I've been told. He could have played today. I want to protect a little bit of that bump and a bruise and also get him ready for that Colorado series."

With good reason, considering the damage Peralta has done against the Rockies and at Coors Field. He's hitting .450 (18-for-40) against the Rockies this season in 10 games with a 1.213 OPS, five doubles, two homers and nine RBIs. And in 26 career games at Coors Field, Peralta is hitting .354 with a .923 OPS, six doubles, one triple, three homers and 15 RBIs.

Watch Free Atlanta Braves vs. San Francisco Giants Baseball Live Streaming Online, MLB 2018 Regular Seasons. San Francisco Giants vs Atlanta Braves match will be kickoff at AT&T Park, Australia, Wednesday 13 September 2018 online, 12:45 PM PDT and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

Atlanta comes into the new week 4.5 games ahead of Philadelphia in the NL East. There’s a good chance the wild cards will come elsewhere in this league, so it’s better for the Braves to get as many wins as possible. There’s a good chance they can add to their total against the lifeless Giants this week. The offense has been rolling lately with an average of 6.1 runs per nine innings over the last five games (3-2 in that stretch with a 1-run loss to Boston).

Foltynewicz has gone 0-2 personally during a four-game losing streak for the Braves with him on the mound. He’s actually had some really good outings in this stretch. He’s given up one run or less in three of those contests with a pitching ratio of 27 Ks to 6 BBs.
Left-hander, Derek Holland will get the start for the Giants. Holland comes into this game with an ERA of 3.54, and is 7-8 on the season. The 31-year-old has tallied 152 strikeouts and ranks 1st on the Giants with 152.2 innings pitched. Holland will match up versus right-hander Anibal Sanchez, who enters the game with a 3.09 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 113.2 innings.

After spending most of the season hovering around the .500 mark, San Francisco has really taken a tumble in the standings as the offense continues to be lifeless. Take away a 9-8 loss to Colorado last Monday, the Giants have scored three runs or less in seven of those recent defeats. Pitching has also uncharacteristically fallen apart with a booming 6.55 bullpen ERA. One reliable hitter has been outfielder Austin Slater with 6 hits and 3 RBIs in his last 6 games.

Suarez couldn’t string any more wins together after a great couple of outings at home. He gave up five total hits in back-to-back games against the New York Mets and Texas, both lasting seven innings. In comparison, he gave up five runs to Colorado last time out.

The Braves are the favorite at -1.5, 66.1% have picked the Braves to cover the spread. The total number of points scored for the over/under is listed at 7.5, 54.4% have picked the over. The moneyline for this game is Giants: +125, Braves: -150 and 80% have picked the Braves to win the game.

For the second night in a row, the Giants went down with barely a whimper, losing to the Atlanta Braves 4-1 on Tuesday before an announced crowd of 35,285 at AT&T Park. It was the 10th loss in a row for the Giants (68-78), marking the longest such streak since 1996. They have never lost 11 in a row in San Francisco.

In addition to another punchless offensive outing — the Giants had six hits and scored their only run in the ninth — manager Bruce Bochy announced before the game that Brandon Belt would possibly need right knee surgery. He was scratched from Tuesday night’s game against Atlanta right-hander Mike Foltynewicz.

That’s what they’re talking about,” Bochy said during his pre-game meeting with the media in the Giants’ dugout. “He has some meniscus issues.

Belt will finish out the final 16 games, even if it means only playing part time. Austin Slater played first in place of Belt against Atlanta. He was 0 for 4 with an error.

Bochy wants Belt to play out the season for a couple of reasons. The manager wants the Giants to finish as strong as possible. Also, he wants Belt in the lineup to provide leadership for the young players on the expanded September roster.

Belt is in a 6-for-40 (.150) slump that has dropped his average to .257, and he hasn’t homered since July 21. He pinch hit Tuesday night and struck out looking.

Also bothered by a sore knee is shortstop Brandon Crawford. He drove in the Giants’ only run against Foltynewicz. Evan Longoria singled with two outs and went to second on defensive indifference, allowing Crawford to knock home his team-leading 51st run.

Crawford’s sore knee — his left — isn’t as serious as Belt’s, and Bochy sounded confident the Gold Glove shortstop will not need surgery.

It’s important these guys get out there and help lead, especially in Belt’s case with Ryder Jones going down,” Bochy said.

Jones will have surgery today to repair his left patella tendon, which he injured last weekend in Milwaukee. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

The mounting injuries led to a bit of a different lineup against the Braves. Crawford batted fourth, albeit for the 28th time this season. Rookie Chris Shaw was in left. Aramis Garcia was the catcher. Alen Hanson played second.

The Giants last lost 11 in a row in 1951 when they were in New York. They ended up winning the pennant that year when Bobby Thomson hit a three-run homer — “The shot heard around the world” — in the bottom of the ninth in the third game of a three-game playoff against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
